Between Castelsardo and Santa Teresa di Gallura, the beaches of the Costa Rossa follow one another in a parade of fantastic places.
From the photos, it is immediately clear why the Costa Rossa is so called: because of the red rock cliffs that provide an unparalleled spectacle.
But now let’s explore its most beautiful beaches together: look at the photos and read how to reach them for your holiday.
Isola Rossa
The most famous fishing village on the coast, despite its small size.
A must for tourists arriving on the Costa Rossa, it owes its name to the granite rock islet in front of the town.
This islet is in fact bright red, creating a wildly fascinating contrast with the bright green of the Mediterranean maquis and the luminous white of the beaches.
Dominating the village, which overlooks the Gulf of Asinara, is the famous Torre Spagnola, which towards the end of the 1500s served to defend the place from pirate raids.
Isola Rossa can be reached by car from the main landing points in northern Sardinia: Olbia, Alghero and Porto Torres, and the journey takes about an hour.
On arrival you will find the village with its shops, bars, restaurants and characteristic craft boutiques.
Isola Rossa is also a popular stop for families and sportsmen, thanks to the presence of numerous trekking routes and opportunities for surfing, windsurfing and diving.
In the town centre are some of the most beautiful beaches of the Costa Rossa: Spiaggia Longa and la Marinedda.
Spiaggia Longa
Spiaggia Longa is the main beach and some people still know it by its older Sardinian name: “Spiaggia di Funtana Eccia“, which in English means “Beach of the Old Fountain”.
The Old Fountain is actually a spring of natural water, which still flows through the shore.
The beautiful beach is located right in the heart of the village, where it’s appreciated for its shallow, sandy seabed, crystal-clear water and warm cream-coloured sand.
Awarded the Blue Flag, Spiaggia Longa offers stretches of free beach alternating with lidos equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, pedal boats for hire, canoes, kiosks with bar and restaurant service.
There is really everything for a perfect day at the beach.
La Marinedda, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Rossa
La Marinedda is located just 1 km from the village of Isola Rossa and is among the most beautiful beaches on the coast.
The shore enchants with its fine white sand, which meets a turquoise sea with clear waters.
While the play of waves captures and reflects the sunlight in indescribably fascinating ways, the rocks of Punta Canneddi provide a backdrop to this wonder.
Among the Mediterranean vegetation that surrounds the place, flooding it with pleasant, fresh scents, one can recognise junipers, sea roses and sea lilies.
The Marinedda has also been awarded the Blue Flag and is divided into free and equipped beaches, just like Spiaggia Longa.
The Marinedda is also known for its surfing and windsurfing school and is suitable for both groups of young people and families with children.
Trinità d’Agultu e Vignola on the Costa Rossa
If you are in the area, just south of Isola Rossa you will find another unmissable stop on the tour: Trinità d’Agultu e Vignola.
It is a small town in Gallura that dominates the coastline with its breathtaking shores, made up of white sandy beaches and immense red rocks, contrasting with the crystal-clear sea.
The town of Trinità d’Agultu tells of a past rich in stories and legends, which you can rediscover through the local cuisine, ancient buildings and monuments, and by strolling through the local shops.
Continuing north-east instead, after Trinità d’Agultu and Isola Rossa, there is the beautiful Costa Paradiso.
Costa Paradiso
13 km from Trinità d’Agultu, the beautiful Costa Paradiso shows itself in all its splendour.
The imposing pink granite rocks and the dense Mediterranean maquis, with its lush greenery, alternate in an incredible landscape of inlets and natural pools, with waters ranging from green to deep blue.
The most beautiful and famous beach on Costa Paradiso is undoubtedly Li Cossi, a true masterpiece of nature.
You can reach it by sea or via the path that follows the spectacular granite rocks.
